About

Kevin A Risner (he/him) is a Cleveland-born writer who has spent the majority of his life in Ohio, minus a few short years in England and Turkey. He’s currently a product copywriter for Wayfair.

He is author of My Ear is a Sieve (Bottlecap Press, 2017), Lucid (The Poetry Annals, 2018), Five Seconds Could Last Five Years (self-published in 2020), Do Us a Favor (Variant Literature, 2021), You Thought This Was Just Gonna Be About Cleveland, Didn’t You (Ghost City Press, 2022), It’s Easy To Lose Your Breath (Match Factory Editions, forthcoming), and There’s No Future Where We Don’t Have Fire (Unsolicited Press, forthcoming).

He contributed to the poetry anthology entitled The Anatomy of Desire: An Anthology of Distance, also published by The Poetry Annals in 2018. Three of his poems are a part of The Second Chance Anthology of re-homed work (Variant Literature, 2020).

His work has been (or will be) published multiple places online. Check out the “Publications” section to see just about all of his work.

Creative writing interests stretch across genres: poetry and prose, with a mix of fiction and nonfiction. He also has experience in journalistic and technical writing. He presently is querying agents for his first two novels, both speculative fiction works. The first one is inspired by the Philosopher’s Stone’s elixir of life, while the second one is titled The Lodestone and focuses on a couple escaping a dystopian California and heading eastward in a reversal of the Westward journey narrative. A third one is percolating and involves multiple narratives interweaving on one rainy night in a future city that currently doesn’t exist.
